Construction on the new turf field at B-CC is set to be completed by the start of the fall season, creating lots of excitement surrounding the 2019 fall sports season. B-CC has been without a field for the past three years due to the construction of the new wing, which was finished for the previous school year.
Field Hockey will play in the first official home game on the new field, where they will take on Blair to kick off the opening weekend. The team is excited to get the chance to participate in the first home game on the new field. Junior midfielder, Ava Viquera, said “[she] think[s] it’s a great way to kick off the season.” Viquera also mentioned how excited field hockey is to have fans at the games now, saying, “having fans at games is really gonna push us to play better and get us more in spirit for our games.”
Following field hockey, the boys and girls soccer teams will continue opening weekend. The girls open up their season against Clarksburg, while the boys face Wootton, both at home. Boys soccer coach, Guillermo Melendez, is ready to be back playing home games at B-CC and can’t wait to play in front of the home fans after playing only away games for three straight years. He says the new field is “going to change [the team’s mentality] in a hugely positive way because we are going to be playing on our field, in front of our fans, under our own lights.” Life as a coach will also become a lot easier for teacher, because “[we] no longer have to drive to the park for practice, [and] the surface is going to be much nicer to practice on, which will only help develop our players.”
Football will play for the first time on the new field a week after against Clarksburg. Opening weekend is getting closer by the day, and teams will continue to prepare for the beginning of the new season as we start this new chapter of B-CC athletics.
